The Lost Distilleries of Ireland

Brian Townsend 1997. Neil Wilson Publishing. 154 pages, no index or glossary. Black and white illustrations

This is a book that desperately needs an index, a reference map and a bibliography but has none of them.

It is, however, sensibly laid out in 2 sections. Part 1 is focussed on the generic Irish whiskey history. Then part 2 is directly related to individual lost distilleries organised into geographical sub headings.

The important thing is the quality of the research and information in this section of which the boxes are well ticked. This is a book for someone who is interested in Irish whiskey, which is obvious, and that person will like this book. The writing style makes this an easy read which is full of information and, at times, drama.

A sad subject covered well.
